How to Steal in Steal a Chicken

Stealing is the verb in Steal a Chicken. Everything else — eggs, Merchant cash, treadmill Speed, Cosmic bragging — starts when a chicken leaves a nest and survives the run home. This page is the steal itself: what to grab, when to grab it, and how to leave without feeding the Guard or a bat.

Nests sit in the open with several chickens. Official art shows white layers, a green crystal bird, a rainbow bird, and a horned purple Guard watching the sand. Live servers use the same idea: obvious value next to an obvious threat. You do not need a spreadsheet to see which nest will get you killed.

The steal sequence

1. Check Speed. If the nearest Guard still tags you on a straight line, steal later. Train on the treadmill or claim the Kibrix Runner +10K first.
2. Watch the nest for other players. Five-person servers mean you always have an audience. If two thieves already path to the rainbow bird, take the white one they ignored.
3. Approach from the home-side, not the scenic side. Every extra stud is Guard time.
4. Grab one chicken. One. Dual-wielding is a fantasy. The carry slow is real.
5. Run the line you practiced in getting started. Do not turn to emote.
6. Bank in the pen. If you get batted, fight only when the drop is still yours and the Guard is not. Otherwise leave. A dead hero with an empty pen is not a steal guide, it is a highlight reel.

Guard kites

The Guard wakes on the steal. It is faster than a loaded beginner and slower than a trained Speed build. Your job is to break line of sight or outrun the leash, not to kill it. There is no boss HP bar that matters more than reaching the pen.

Kite rules:

• Never steal with your back to a wall. Corners are where bats land.
• Do not cut through another player’s pen. That is how accidental (and on-purpose) bats happen.
• If the Guard is about to tag you, drop nothing on purpose unless you already read how to protect. Panic drops in the open are gifts.
• After a successful bank, wait a beat before the next nest. Chaining steals with an aggro Guard is how Cosmic hopefuls reset their whole pen.

Night restocks

The listing says new chickens arrive every night. Play around the flip. Standing in a nest as the restock hits is excellent if you have Speed and a clear run. It is suicide if you are still selling eggs. Be at the Merchant or the treadmill before the sky changes, then walk to nests after the new birds exist.

Night is also when the best players roam. If your server’s Cosmic hunter is online, let them take the horned bird. Steal the leftover layers, sell, and train. You will beat them tomorrow when they hop. Ego is not a Speed stat.

What not to steal yet

Leave Cosmic nests until you can hold a mid carry without a tag. The Cosmic Zone page exists because the badge is rare. Leave the thumbnail rainbow egg if three people already path to it. Leave a nest if your pen is full. A stolen chicken with nowhere to sit is a walking advertisement.

Use the tier list to decide replacements, not first grabs. First grabs are about surviving the Guard. Replacements are about egg quality. Mixing those two decisions is how beginners stand in a Cosmic nest with 12K Speed and a dream.

PvP during the steal

The bat is for defense and for grief. If someone is carrying a better chicken than you, batting them is a steal without a nest. That is legal in the ruleset and rude in voice chat. Decide before you swing. If you bat, you must be ready to pick up the drop and still kite the Guard. A bat that leaves the bird on the sand for a third player is charity.

After you bank, you can hunt. Before you bank, you are prey. Play prey until the pen ticks. Then read players if you want to live on the leaderboard instead of the Merchant line.

Steal small, bank always, restock at night, and only then steal loud.
